MULTICARE INDIGO

2 InsetSlide™ doors closing off clinic exam rooms.

Indigo Urgent Care Clinics, a new type of urgent care prototype from MultiCare, offer fast, friendly and convenient care for a wide variety of illnesses in locations across the state of Washington. Drawing inspiration from the coffee culture of Seattle, these clinics are designed to create a casual, community focused atmosphere. According to BCRA Design, they are conceived to feel, “more like a lounge than a healthcare facility, while still being built to hospital-grade.”

When BCRA Design began work on the MultiCare Indigo Urgent Care Clinics, they aimed to carry this lounge-based atmosphere into corridors by including a sliding door system in the exam rooms that remained flush with the wall. This door system would save critical space and create a sleek, modern look for the clinic. In light of these requirements, the design firm approached AD Systems with a request for a custom product with a more flush appearance than their mainstay surface-mounted barn door design. This was the perfect opportunity for AD Systems and their founding sister company Goldfinch Brothers to create a new sliding door system designed specifically with MultiCare Indigo in mind.

The MultiCare Indigo James Center, located in Tacoma, Washington, was the first project to include the InsetSlideTM design from AD Systems. This inset sliding door system features a door that slides over an integral sidelite, where both the door and the sidelite can fit within the rough opening (as opposed to proud of the wall with a standalone barn door design). The doors feature a flush wood door with applied signage and a decorative glass sidelite that allows for daylighting while safeguarding visual privacy. The inset design achieves the key goal of having the door rest flush with the wall, for a clean aesthetic and preservation of hallway clearances down the corridors. Additionally, the sliding door system includes acoustical perimeter seals to reduce noise transfer between exam rooms, providing even more privacy for patients and doctors.

Due to the positive feedback from this project, AD Systems now offers InsetSlide as a standard product. “It was a privilege to work with BCRA and Andersen Construction to make this design intent a product reality. It brings us back to our early days in 2008, being approached to build a sliding door solution that met the very specific needs of a healthcare project [Seattle Children’s Ambulatory Surgery Center]. We love any opportunity to work with architects to find new ways to improve our products or add features that they know their clients will appreciate,” says Tysen Gannon, Business Development Manager for AD Systems.

InsetSlide can incorporate flush wood or aluminum stile and rail doors with integral glass sidelite or solid infill options. The system offers easy-to-clean aluminum frame system wraps and protects wall construction. Standard features include a space-saving design with top hung rollers for a smooth, maintenance-free operation, acoustic perimeter seals, and a soft close dampening system. UL 1784 smoke-rated options are available. InsetSlide doors come with a variety of hardware options including: ADA thumb turn lock with occupancy indicator, key locks, ADA self-latching mortise, magnetic locks, single-action egress with lever, flush pulls and anti-ligature hardware.
